As part of a comprehensive
program of youth ministry, the Church offers a variety of religious
experiences to young people in scouting!
Coordinated on the
diocesan level by the Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting, scouts
of Catholic-faith in the Oakland Diocese have the opportunity
to:
Scouts may have the
opportunity in their local parishes to attend "Scout Sunday"
celebrations, perform service projects, or participate in a variety of
scout group sponsored events.

THE
CATHOLIC COMMITTEE ON SCOUTING
The
Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting, in cooperation with the local
scout councils, facilitates programs for scouts of Catholic faith.
The Committee is under the support of the Diocesan Department of CYO
and Catholic Scouts, and is under the guidance of the Diocesan Scout
Chaplain, Father Larry D'Anjou. There are representatives on the committee
from both girl scout and boy scout organizations.
The
committee meets 5 times during the school year. Interested adults
are invited to attend.

What's New!
2010-2011 SCOUT CALENDAR OF EVENTS is Announced
The Calendar of Events for Catholic Scouting for the 2010 and 2011 school year has been announced. The events include religous awards offered to scouts, retreats for all ages and the "Celebration of Scouting." See the Calendar for more details.
SCOUT AWARD COUNSELOR TRAINING
The annual Scout Religious Award Counselor Training has been announced. The training will be on Saturday, September 18 at St. Anne parish, Union City, starting at 9:00 a.m. The training is to certifiy adult counselors to help young people earn scout religious awards.

SCOUT RETREAT-O-REE
Scout Campout and Youth Retreat in One Weekend!
The annual Scout Retreat-O-Ree will be on October 8, 9 and 10 at Camp Rancho Los Mochos, Livermore. Fun activities are centered around the scouts' faith and includes a great weekend of camping at Los Mochos!

Want to find a great spot close to home to go camping with your scout unit, have a great day activity, or make your awards ceremony or Court of Honor special? The Oakland Diocese has a camping and day activity site available for scout units at the Diocesan Youth Retreat Center in Lafayette, including 5 campsites with tables, barbecue pit, campfire ring with seating and a stage, access to the reteat center swimming pool.

100th ANNIVERSARY JAMBOREE MASS!
A special Mass was celebrated at the 100th Anniversary Scout Jamboree at the Pleasanton Fairgrounds on Sunday, April 18. Over 300 scouts and leaders attended. Celebrant was Fr. Jerry Kennedy, Catholic Community of Pleasanton, with Music Ministers Jon Manongdo and musicians from St. Joseph, Fremont.
